Submission Statuses
SALT ships 8 default Statuses: 2 are system-managed (Lead, New) and cannot be edited or removed; the other 6 (In Progress, Quoted, Presented, Won, Lost, Follow Up) you can rename, recolor, reorder, or archive. Add your own Statuses to fit your workflow.
In short: Eight Statuses ship by default. Two (Lead, New) are system-managed and locked. The other six you can rename, recolor, reorder, or replace. Change a Submission’s Status from the Status dropdown on the Submission’s detail page.
What a Status is
A Status is a label that tells you (and your team) where a Submission is in your workflow. Submissions move through Statuses as the deal progresses — from a fresh lead to a quoted policy to either won or lost.
Statuses drive the Submissions list, Saved Views, reports, and (in some plans) auto-archive behavior.
The default Statuses
SALT ships these Statuses for every new agency:
| Status | Editable? | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Lead | No (system-managed) | A consumer started the form but hasn’t completed it yet |
| New | No (system-managed) | A consumer completed the form; you haven’t worked it yet |
| In Progress | Yes | You’re actively working the Submission |
| Quoted | Yes | You’ve sent a quote to the prospect |
| Presented | Yes | The quote has been presented and the prospect is considering |
| Won | Yes | The prospect bound the policy |
| Lost | Yes | The prospect didn’t move forward |
| Follow Up | Yes | Reach back out at a later date |
The two system-managed Statuses (Lead, New) can’t be renamed, removed, or have their behavior changed — they’re how SALT distinguishes incomplete from complete Submissions. The other six are starting points; treat them as suggestions, not commandments. Most agencies customize the editable six over time. See Customizing Statuses.
Change a Submission’s Status
-
1
Open the Submission you want to update.
-
2
Click the Status dropdown (typically near the top of the detail page).
-
3
Pick the new Status. The change saves immediately.
A Status change can trigger:
- Notifications to subscribers (depending on per-user preferences)
- Auto-archive if the new Status has auto-archive turned on (see Customizing Statuses)
- Integration sync events for some vendors (e.g. AgencyZoom can mirror won/lost states)
Status colors and ordering
Each Status has a color (used in the list and on the Submission detail) and a position in the workflow order. Customize both for your agency in your Statuses settings.
Common questions
Why can’t I edit “Lead” and “New”? They drive system behavior. SALT uses them to distinguish complete (New and beyond) from incomplete (Lead) Submissions. Renaming would break that distinction across reports, integrations, and plan limits.
Can I create custom Statuses on top of the defaults? Yes — see Customizing Statuses. Add as many as you need; reorder them to match your sales flow.
What if my workflow doesn’t have “Quoted” or “Presented”? Archive the Statuses you don’t use (where supported) so they stop appearing in pickers. Past Submissions in those Statuses keep them as a historical label.
Does changing a Status notify the consumer? No — Status changes are internal. Consumers don’t see your Statuses or workflow stages.
