Using the SALT Default Live Intake template

The SALT Default template is built-in, maintained by SALT, and ready to use without setup. It covers the standard insurance intake flow. You can't edit it — but you can build a custom template if you need something different.

Updated Apr 29, 2026 For agency staff

In short: Open a Submission, start Live Intake, pick SALT Default, and click through the steps. The template is uneditable but ready to go for any line of business it covers.

What SALT Default covers

SALT Default is the standard intake flow SALT ships and maintains. It’s organized into categories that cover the core information you’d ask any prospect:

  • The Insured (the person being insured)
  • Drivers, vehicles, properties, and other LOB-specific records as applicable
  • Coverage preferences and policy details
  • Documents and consents

The exact step list varies by which lines of business the Submission covers. SALT updates the template as the platform evolves — you don’t have to migrate or maintain it.

How to start Live Intake with SALT Default

  1. 1

Open the Submission you want to work on. If you haven’t created one yet, create it from the Submissions section first.

  2. 2

Start Live Intake from the Submission’s detail page. You’ll see a template picker.

  3. 3

Pick SALT Default. (It’s labeled “Uneditable standard template.”)

  4. 4

Step through the categories and steps. Answers save as you click through.

You can pause and come back at any time — the Submission keeps your progress.

Why SALT Default is uneditable

SALT Default is locked because:

  • It’s the same for every customer, so every agency benefits from improvements as we make them.
  • Updates ship to your account automatically; you don’t maintain it.
  • It’s a reliable starting point when an agency hasn’t yet decided what their own templates should look like.

If SALT Default doesn’t fit your call script, build a custom template instead — it can include only the categories and questions your specific workflow needs.

When to graduate from SALT Default

Most agencies use SALT Default for general intake and add custom templates as they identify specific patterns:

  • A targeted template for renters quotes (fewer steps than full home).
  • A template for a specific carrier appetite (only the questions that carrier needs).
  • A template for a specific agent role (e.g. a lead-qualifier vs a quoter).

Both can coexist — you pick which template to use at the start of each Live Intake session.

Common questions

Can I customize parts of SALT Default just for my agency? No — it’s identical for every customer. To get a customized version, build a custom template (you can use SALT Default’s structure as inspiration for what to include).

Does SALT Default include Custom Questions I’ve created? SALT Default uses standard SALT questions only. To include Custom Questions, use them in a custom Live Intake template or on the Form itself.

What happens if SALT changes the default template mid-conversation? Updates apply to new sessions. A session you’ve already started keeps its current structure until you start over.

Can I jump around between steps? Yes — you can navigate forward and backward through the template. Answers persist regardless of order.
