Updating your payment method

Payment method updates run through Stripe's hosted billing portal. Open the update flow from your agency billing, complete the change on Stripe's secure page, and return to SALT. Updates apply immediately for future charges.

Updated Apr 29, 2026 For agency admin

In short: Open billing, click to update payment method, complete the Stripe-hosted update, and return. New cards are charged on the next renewal.

Why Stripe hosts the update

Card and bank details are sensitive. SALT routes payment management through Stripe’s hosted portal so the card number, CVV, and other details never touch SALT’s servers — Stripe is PCI-compliant and handles them with proper security. SALT receives only a token that lets us charge the card.

Update your payment method

  1. 1

    Open your agency’s billing settings.

  2. 2

Find the payment method section and click to update.

  3. 3

SALT redirects you to Stripe’s hosted billing portal.

  4. 4

Sign in (Stripe authenticates via your billing email) and update the payment method — add a new card, remove old, or change the default.

  5. 5

Return to SALT. The change is reflected on your billing settings within seconds.

What happens at the next renewal

  • The new payment method is charged on the next billing cycle
  • Existing pending charges (if any) finish processing on the previous method
  • A receipt for each charge is emailed to your billing contact

Card expiration

Stripe automatically sends a reminder email before a card expires:

  • The reminder usually arrives 30 days before expiration
  • If you don’t update before the card expires, Stripe retries failed charges using your old method for several days, sending dunning emails along the way
  • If the card stays expired and renewal fails entirely, the subscription enters a delinquent state — eventually access is restricted

To avoid the cliff:

  • Update before expiration, ideally as soon as you get the reminder
  • Confirm the new card on Stripe’s portal works (Stripe runs a small validation charge)

Multiple payment methods

Stripe supports multiple payment methods on a single account — useful for backup cards. Configure them in the billing portal and pick which is default.

If the default fails, Stripe may attempt fallbacks based on configuration.

Common questions

My card was charged and the payment failed — what now? Update the payment method ASAP, then contact billing support if the renewal didn’t recover automatically.

Can I pay by ACH or invoice instead of a card? Larger or enterprise customers can be invoiced directly. Contact support to discuss alternatives to card-on-file.

My company changed its billing email. How do I update? Update the billing email in billing settings; Stripe receipts go to the new address starting on the next charge.

I updated my card but I’m still seeing alerts about the old one. Refresh the page or sign out and back in. The cache may need a moment to update. If the alert persists, contact support.
