Documents on Submissions
Submissions can hold documents — driver's licenses, dec pages, photos, certifications. Consumers upload them via the Form (or a follow-up document request); you upload them from the Submission detail. Accepted types include PDF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WEBP. Per-file size cap is 25 MB.
In short: Documents attach to the Submission via the Documents area on the detail page. Consumers can upload through the Form or via a focused document request. You can upload directly from the Submission.
How documents get onto a Submission
Three paths:
- Consumer fills out a Form with a document upload question. Documents land on the Submission tied to the question they answered.
- You send a focused document request. The consumer gets a link that lets them upload only the missing items, without re-running the full intake.
- You upload directly from the Submission detail. Useful when you have the document yourself (e.g. a fax the consumer sent, an emailed attachment).
Accepted formats and size
SALT accepts the standard set:
- Types: PDF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WEBP
- Per-file size cap: 25 MB
Formats outside this list are rejected before upload completes. Files over the size cap are also rejected with a message.
For images on mobile, the consumer can capture directly with their device camera — usually faster than uploading from the gallery.
View, download, replace
From the Submission’s Documents area:
- View — most files preview in-browser.
- Download — single-file or batched download via the export options.
- Replace — overwrite a previously uploaded document with a new file.
- Remove — delete a document from the Submission. The previous file is gone.
Request additional documents
When a Submission is missing something — proof of prior insurance, a clearer photo of a license, a signed declaration — send a document request. The consumer gets a focused link that opens just the upload step, not the whole Form.
This avoids forcing them through the full intake again, which they (rightly) find annoying.
Documents and integrations
Some integrations sync documents to the destination system; some don’t:
- AgencyZoom can attach documents on lead/opportunity sync (see AgencyZoom guide).
- HawkSoft depends on the configured field map — see the HawkSoft guide.
- Other integrations may sync metadata only and require manual document upload to the destination.
When in doubt, check the destination system after sync to verify the documents made it.
Common questions
The consumer uploaded the wrong file. Can I delete it and re-request? Yes. Remove the document from the Submission, then send a fresh document request for that field.
Why was the consumer’s upload rejected? Most common reasons: unsupported file type, file over 25 MB, or a network failure mid-upload. Ask them to retry on Wi-Fi with a supported format.
Can I lock the documents so they can’t be changed after upload? The standard flow allows replace/remove by anyone with access to the Submission. For audit-grade locking, export the document and store it in your AMS as a permanent record.
Where are documents physically stored? On SALT’s secure storage backend. They’re retrieved via signed URLs that expire after a short window — you can’t share a download link with someone who doesn’t have access to the Submission.
